Choosing a Lighting Installer in Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire
Updated: Oct 5
Good lighting changes how a home, shop or office looks and feels, and it also affects safety and running costs. Whether you are updating a living room or fitting out a commercial unit, a little planning before the work starts makes a big difference to the result.
Start with how the space is used
A kitchen needs bright, even task lighting over the worktops. A living room works best with layers of softer light that you can dim. A warehouse or workshop needs robust fittings that give consistent light across the whole floor. Thinking about the activities first helps you choose the right fittings, rather than just the ones that look good in a catalogue.
Plan the circuits as well as the fittings
Adding downlights, pendants or wall lights often means new or altered circuits, and older properties may need rewiring or a consumer unit upgrade first. A qualified electrician will check the existing wiring, the earthing and bonding, and the capacity of the consumer unit before anything is fitted, so the new lighting is safe and meets BS 7671.
Think about energy use and control
LED fittings use far less electricity than older halogen or fluorescent lamps, and dimmers, timers and smart controls let you set the right level of light for each time of day. If you are considering smart lighting, it is worth planning the control system at the same time as the wiring.
Choose a properly qualified installer
Look for current registrations such as NICEIC, ask about the certification that should be issued when the work is complete, and make sure the quote explains what is and is not included. For larger design-led schemes, a good installer will work with specialist lighting designers and suppliers so that the finished result matches the plan.
